Festivities without music? No way! For activist and singer
Piya Chakraborty, music is key to expressing and internalising the magic of
Durga Puja. When My Kolkata got in touch with Piya to know about her
Durga Puja recommendations, a question had to be on music, and she happily
obliged. A nostalgic favourite, Piya loves the song Ek Ekke Ek — a
melody that is synonymous to Durga Puja vacations and childhood for many.
“This song instantly brings back the joy of pujo,”
Piya reminisced. “We used to sing and dance to it — and it was even taught in
school,” she added.
Originally sung by Sanat Singha, composed by Prabir
Mazumder, and penned by Ranjit Dey, Ek Ekke Ek is part of the album Baburam
Sapure Sanat Sinha. The innocent lyrics and catchy tune transport you to
the joyful days of childhood — planning pandal hops in new clothes under the
blue sky with candyfloss clouds, marvelling at the decorations and dreaming
about which street food should be next on the list.
