Teaming maang tikas to complete
our ethnic looks for weddings or Indian rituals is common as well as popular.
But, have we delved on the mythology and historical anecdotes associated with
the jewellery? Singer Sona Mohapatra has posted an educative reel, sharing not
only the process through which she wore a maang tika for her look in the
song Baadila, but also writing interesting anecdotes.
“The maang tika, a centuries-old
traditional Indian headpiece, the provenance is in fact spiritual.According to
the Vedas, the centre of the forehead is home to the Ajna Chakra or the third
eye, the seat of concealed wisdom…” wrote Sona. She further shared how maang
tikas are worn in various ways and in diverse designs in Rajasthan, Punjab,
West Bengal, and Odisha.
