The popular Bengali phrase — maachey-bhaatey Bangali — is more relevant than we Bongs think. As fish is mostly an integral part of our everyday meal and stars in several Bengali rituals, we have become accustomed to its presence. But, a video like the recent one on the Kitchen Kahani series by chef Ranveer Brar reminds one of the loving relationship between a Bangali and the maachh.
The chef, who also stars in the video, has spoken about how fishes are decorated as bride and groom at the Bengali weddings, and about the folk legend on ghosts — the mechcho bhoot or ghosts that love fish. From talking about the fable related to mechcho bhoot to ending the video with a how maachey-bhaatey Bangali is a perfect phrase, this video is a must watch for all.
