Mutton Kosha and Pulao — Piya Chakraborty’s
earliest memories of Durga Puja revolve around this classic Bengali
combination. It’s a tradition that Piya and her family still follow. Whether
cooked at home or ordered in, one of the pujo days is always dedicated
to Kosha Mangsho paired with Pulao for sure. “Pulao and mangsho have to
be on the table on one of the days,” she shared. Piya also fondly recalls her
joint family gatherings, where Pulao and Kosha Mangsho were staples during
Durga Puja.
Another dish that Piya loves and is a part of her pujo
routine is having Bhoger Khichuri for Ashtami. “My mom usually makes khichuri
during the daytime — the kind you get for bhog. She has been making
it since childhood and I have enjoyed it so much!” This year, Piya plans to try
her hand at making Bhoger Khichuri using her mother’s recipe. Amazing way to
carry forward a culinary tradition, isn’t it?
Whether
it’s Pulao with Kosha Mangsho or Bhoger Khichuri, these dishes are true
culinary gems of Bengali cuisine and Piya’s fond memories sure strike a chord —
making it imperative to not miss either this pujo.
