Food is an integral part of Durga Puja for every Bengali. However, for multidisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, the festival is more about feeding rather than eating. Sujoy confessed that his favourite thing to do is to treat members of his staff to hearty Bengali meals during the festival. “Even if I’m not at home, I make it a point to order biryani from Arsalan for them,” he smiled.
Personally, Durga Puja is the only time that Sujoy indulges in Bengali food. “I’m generally someone who loves European cuisine, but during the festival, I actually enjoy going to Calcutta Club or Taj Bengal for an elaborate Bengali spread. I also loved the Chingri Maacher Malai Curry that my mother used to prepare during Pujo. Since her passing, I have lost the taste for it, although it still invokes the same nostalgia,” he added.
If you’re looking for the perfect tasty treat for your friends and family this Durga Puja, consider sending them some classic Arsalan biryani!
