Love classical dance and
music? Then, get ready for an evening of soulful rhythms and melodies at The
Nritya Sangam Festival 2024, hosted by Ghungroo Dance Academy in collaboration
with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The event has been organised
to celebrate the traditional guru-shishya parampara at Gyan Manch on July 3,
from 6pm onwards.
With My Kolkata as the digital media partner, the Ghungroo
Dance Academy plans to revive the age-old tradition of learning classical dance
and music from a guru — a practice that is fading in modern times.
Elaborating on the purpose of the event, Madhumita Roy Misra, secretary of
Ghungroo Dance Academy, explained, “Indian classical dance and music are art
forms that must be ideally learnt from a teacher. To revive this tradition,
we’ve organised this programme.”
Veteran artistes and Gurus Susmita Mishra, Kajal Misra, Pushpita, Mukherjee, Madhuri Mazumdar, Pt. Prasenjit Poddar, Pt. Debasish, Bhattacharya and Tapati Choudhury will be felicitated during the event. The evening will see performances by senior and young artistes, such as Madhuri Mazumdar, Pt. Prasenjit Poddar, Souvik Chakraborty, Trina Roy and Poulami Basu, Paramita Bhattacharjee, Indira Tripathy, Nandini Chakraborty, Debasmita Mukherjee, Sriyanka Mali, Prasenjit Mazumdar, Nilopa Maitra, Nitish Benerjee, Saurav Paul, Arindam Dalu.
The highlight of the evening, however, will be the three dance performances — ‘Rainy Season’, 'Tarana' and a composition on 11 matras, choreographed and directed by Madhumita Roy Misra.
Where: 11, Pretoria St, Elgin, Kolkata, West Bengal 700071
When: July 3,
