What are your plans for Friday the 13th this year? Do you
want to add some music to make the spooky day melodious? Then add Jazzfest 2024
to your calendar. The three-day-long line-up is back in Kolkata, and here’s what we know:
- Day
one starts with Paddy Quartet who will pay tribute to John Coltrane,
followed by Kubo Wojick Trio who will present modern jazz with a touch of
contemporary flair. Ending the powerpacked day will be German powerhouse
Malstrom, bringing the avant-garde feels.
- Day two has Datascape, an ensemble of Indian electronic jazz artistes, who will
blend their symphonies together. The music line-up also has Copenhagen
Calcutta Connection, featuring Indian and Danish artistes, along with
Silvan Joray Quartet, who are regulars at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
- It
all peaks on day three with Indian group The Jazz collective taking to the
stage. Following them will be Kolkata-based The Big Other performing gypsy
jazz paying homage to their inspiration Django Reinhardt. The day will
also feature Khamira, an ensemble of Welsh and Indian artistes. The last
act will be Hillai Govreen & Friends, with Govreen joining Swiss and
Indian artistes.
