Lots of diners headed to Sector V’s Miam Cafe and Bistro this Puja, but most of them expected to be served just coffee, sandwiches and nachos. “People are fixated on the word cafe in our name without realising that bistro means a full-fledged restaurant that sells everything from coffee to liquor,” said Moumita Ghosh, a partner.

So for Diwali, they have decided to emphasise on their north Indian cuisine. “We are a multi-cuisine eatery selling Indian, Continental, Thai and Japanese but since we are ushering in an Indian festival, we thought of going local with the cuisine,” said manager Arup Biswas.

So among starters will be Mahi Tikka (Rs 499), a succulent basa dish served with mint and pineapple chutney, and Badshahi Tengri Kebab, that is marinated with curd and yellow — instead of red — chilli powder for a fresh flavour and colour.

“There’s a lot of interest in vegetables like broccoli and mushrooms these days so we are preparing Tandoori Broccoli and Shabnam ki Moti (Rs 367), which has mushrooms stuffed with marinated curd,” said chef Suman Chowdhury.

For the main course there will be Biryani, cooked in a combination of Hyderabad and Calcutta styles, and Hyderabadi Handi Chicken (Rs 447), which is drum sticks prepared in tomato and onion puree. “Our Laal Maas is cooked in the typical Rajasthan style and Mutton Rogan Josh in the Kashmiri style. We are using rare spices like ratan jot to get the rich red colour,” said Chowdhury.

The four-month-old restaurant is awaiting a liquor licence. Till then they have mocktails aplenty. Try their refreshing cucumber concoctions or a drink called Lovers Point (Rs 262), made of freshly-squeezed watermelon juice, coconut water and coconut essence.

Miam, by the way, means “yummy” in French and the duplex-style restaurant is on the ground floor of Sector V’s PS Srijan Corporate Park. The picturesque restaurant is done up in a garden theme, with artificial plants covering their walls, artificial grass separating floor tiles... Some seats have even been replaced with swings, much like in a park.

The festival will continue from November 1 to 6 and a discount of 20 per cent will be applicable on all orders from Monday to Friday, noon to 5pm.
