The star hotel off E.M. Bypass took the celebrations on February 1 to another level as JW Kitchen was also thematically done in red with Chinese lanterns, a dessert section showcasing various kinds of offerings with the tiger motif. “This was the first time I saw a lion dance performance and I am blown by the colours, coordination and liveliness of the performance,” said Sumeet Suri, general manager, JW Marriott Kolkata.
Celebrating the Chinese community and their culture, the lobby at JW Marriott Kolkata came alive with a brilliant lion dance performance — one of the most significant Lunar New Year traditions. The colourful performance was done by India Hong De, led by Master James Liao.
The Telegraph picks
Vegetarians have an array of dim sum options to pick from. We tried Chichow Dim Sum — a semi translucent orange steamed dim sum stuffed with crunchy veggies.
Sit back and let the magic of Prawn Enoki with Truffle dim sum do the magic in your mouth. The unusual pairing of enoki, prawns and truffle blew us away.
Bite into the crispy Deep Fried Tofu in Chinese Rock Salt Phuket that has a perfect balance of the mild taste of tofu with the kick of the chilli, fried garlic and rock salt.
Wasabi Prawns with pomegranate is a surprise on the menu. Batter fried prawns are drizzled with an unusual wasabi dressing on top that enhances the taste of the prawns. Bite into the pomegranate to cut the kick of the wasabi.
Cod Fish in Chef’s Special Sauce (soya garlic with Chinese wine) is a main course fish delicacy that had very sublime flavours. The whole fish is steamed and makes for a great Instagram click too!
One of our top picks from the menu is Pork Spare Ribs that had the perfect tenderness, flavours and meat-fat ratio.
Seafood XO Fried Rice is a must-try. Loaded with salmon, a rare ingredient in fried rice, pair this aromatic dish with Bekti Fish Oyster and Fresh Red Chilli or Cod Fish in Chef’s Special Sauce.
We dug into Tiger, a mandarin cream, pistachio sable, matcha sponge-based dessert that was too cute to be eaten! Full marks for the plating that had ‘tiger’ written in Chinese.
