A panoramic view of a waterbody, the Maa flyover, and a vibe that matches the view, OG By The Lake is the expansive (16,000sq ft) new cafe-cum-dine den that opens doors today. Nestled in the corner plot at Calcutta Boating and Hotel Resorts, right next to the play turf Orchid Arena, is this 250-seater space that has an indoor air-conditioned glass house, and numerous semi-open and outdoor decks for guests to soak in the best of the city, alongside some decadent world cuisine.
t2 walked in on an orange sunset, and here’s getting you a first look.
Done in neutral tones with rustic minimalism, the space is neat and uncluttered, with pops of colour and bling in the form of famous song lyrics such as This Is What It Feels Like and Lights Will Guide You Home.
We particularly liked the rattan-enclosed ceiling lights that add soft lighting to the space. The space has glass walls on two sides promising expansive views of the outdoor gardens as well as the waterbody.
(LEFT) The t2 camera perched at the patio captured uninterrupted views of the waterbody, the flyover, right till ITC Royal Bengal standing tall as the city’s major landmark.
(RIGHT) Reminding us of Balinese photo-ops is this #TheOGLife photo corner that’s lined with white pebbles and cobbled walk and makes for a great picture spot.
SIP AND BITE
1. Honey Harissa Carrot Salad: A melange of Mediterranean flavours, this salad has baked carrots with chickpeas, served on a bed of whipped feta cheese that adds creaminess. The drizzle of honey and carrot top oil add a mild sweetness.
2. Lemon Chicken: Chicken skewers are marinated in a lemon and spice blend, and then char-fried to perfection. Burnt garlic and lemon mayo act as a great dip to round off the dish.
3. Cherry Tomato and Feta Pizza: A personal favourite, this has fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, feta and Parmesan cheese and a generous helping of balsamic drizzle making this fresh pizza that is a great break from the usual ones.
4. Crispy Yam Laccha: Ditch the potatoes, and go for this yam-based dish that has crispy fried yam fingers coated in a sweet and sour jaggery and tamarind chilli sauce.
5. Dan Dan Noodles: Available in a vegetarian as well as a chicken variant, this is a hearty bowl of noodles, veggies, sauce, and chilli paste with some crispy fried shallots topped with some piping hot stock. We loved this comforting bowl.
6. (Left) Sippin Pretty in Music City is an Instagrammable milkshake that has strawberry ice cream with marshmallow blue cream and crushed peanuts with silver pearls.(Right) Tropical Vibes is a refreshing sip that has pomegranate juice with mint and tonic water.
“When we planned on the place, we knew that we had to do something that really made the most of the promising views. The city didn’t have a similar lakeside space, so we tapped into the feel of a beach club, but at the same time, we didn’t want it to be too OTT. Think Dubai or Goa or Bali. Be it the relaxed seating, plenty of grass and blooms, white pebbled spaces, all are reminiscent of a chill beach club vibe. In terms of F&B our goal is to serve comforting world cuisine, no extra frills, just some great grub and a fun time for our patrons,” said Kamran Ahmed Khan (left) and Moosa Ahmed Khan, directors, OG Kitchen and Hospitality Pvt. Ltd.
