Sheikh, a resident of Patharghata in New Town, is unemployed.

He was arrested in the past for a similar incident as well as for stealing scrap iron and electrical fittings from construction sites in New Town, the officer said.

Bishop Sarkar, the deputy commissioner of New Town, said they tracked down Sheikh after receiving a specific tip-off from one of their sources.

“Sheikh had apparently boasted about the chase to his friends at a tea stall. One of our informers, who was there, told us about it and we tracked him down,” Sarkar said.
