These plant-based foods are high on the satiety quotient

For most hardcore non-vegetarians, eating out means going all out on the protein, be it chicken, mutton or fish. From tender kebabs, to juicy burgers, we love to dig into succulent meaty dishes, isn’t it? But t2 recently went on a trail that would make even the most devout non-vegetarians give these plant-based dishes a try. We tried nine different vegetarian dishes and were most definitely spoilt for choice.

Spicy Quinoa and Sweet Potato Burger at Sienna Cafe:

The good old superfood quinoa meets the humble sweet potato in this fiery burger that’s loaded with in-house hot queso and cheddar cheese. The flavours at this Hindustan Park eatery pack such a punch that it won’t let you miss your cheeseburger.

Soya Keema Pav at One8 Commune:

Taking you straight to the Irani cafes of South Bombay is this vegetarian keema pav made from hand-ground soy chunks cooked in aromatic spices and served with in-house soft buttered buns at the Ho Chi Minh Sarani fine-dine den. We bet you’d be asking for extra pavs.

Kale and Corn Galouti at Jalsa:

Replacing the quintessential mutton chunks are kale and corn in these bittersweet kebabs at the Camac Street Indian fine-dine restaurant. Served with caramelised onions, these melt-in-the-mouth bites incorporate goat’s cheese for a creamy touch alongside some carrot and beetroot gel for added sweetness.

Indo Mex Seekh at LMNOQ:

This vegetarian seekh kebab has a soft and creamy texture, courtesy Mexican avocados mixed with black olives and marinated with punchy Indian spices. Cooked to perfection in a tandoor, and served with a cranberry chutney and house salad, this kebab dish is an apt start to your evening at the newly opened Park Street pub.

Mock Meat Singhara at The Glenburn Penthouse:

Flaky Singhara pastry is filled with zingy chunks of mock meat, served with panchphoron braised pineapple, and tamarind chutney. A brilliant rendition of the Zakaria Street mutton samosas served during Ramadan sans the meat, at the Russel Street residence. The dish is a part of an eight-course tasting menu priced @Rs 3,800-plus

Mushroom and Truffle Sliders at Trapeze:

These sliders made from meaty mushrooms champion the cause of plant-based dishes. Hearty and crispy mushroom patties are served with tomatoes, lettuce, fries, house coleslaw, ketchup, smoked Bandel cheese, and caramelised onions. An ideal sharing platter at the busy Russel Street lounge.

Pearl Barley Quinoa Burger at SAZ:

The goodness and health of pearl barley and quinoa come together in this loaded burger at the Camac Street diner. The patty is smeared with in-house Pepperesco sauce comprising roasted bell peppers and tomatoes, asparagus and Truffle oil, along with fresh rocket leaves and some fries.

Mockmeat Wantons at SKAI:

The rooftop lounge at Quest serves crispy, deep-fried wontons stuffed with mockmeat marinated in Asian spices in the form of an appealing bouquet, easy to pluck like a flower. The chilli relish adds another flavour bomb to these mouthfuls. @Rs 400-plus

Grilled Mock Meat Skewer at Burma Burma:

Chef’s special at the Park Street Burmese eatery, these skewers of mock meat are marinated in a traditional Burmese marinade made from crushed spices, tamarind, and lemon zest. Grilled till they are charred yet juicy, they are served with in-house sweet chilli dip.
