Covering an area of over 1.5 acres, Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong, is right in the heart of the city in the Police Bazar area. The property that opened last November serves as a gateway for business travellers in the region, and also for tourists who want to explore the local beauty of Shillong, and also visit nearby regions of Dawki and Cherrapunji.
The 101-key hotel has three F&B offerings, and a soon-to-begin gym and spa area as well.
Taking on the concept of sustainability or Paathya (sustainability initiatives within IHCL), the hotel promotes employment in the region, with a very strong male-female ratio, serves local Khasi cuisine as well for travellers and locals who’d like a taste of the region, and also retails locally made fruit vines that use the native sohiong fruit.
t2 delved into a full-fledged Meghalaya experience in and around the hotel, and here’s bringing you some glimpses.
ACCOMMODATION:
The property has 101 rooms in total across categories such as Premium Suite, Deluxe Suite, Premium Room, Deluxe and Superior Room. Olive green walls add a sense of warmth to the place, and bright cherry-coloured sofas balance it with a pop of colour. Due to the unique shape of the hotel, rooms have different shapes as well. The property also has a room that’s designed keeping specially-abled people in mind.
BANQUETING:
F&B:
Mynt: The all-day diner boasts of a skylight that looks great in all seasons. Neutral is the colour tone for the interiors, with teal upholstery. Executive chef Pradyut Hazarika also carefully crafts local dishes for interested diners. t2 indulged in a hearty Khasi meal and some of the dishes blew our mind.
"It’s a city hotel and we are an F&B-centric hotel with entertainment events such as music nights, brunches, jazz nights as well as special DJs. We are in the middle of Police Bazaar, which is the shopping hub and a great space to experience the pulse of the area, with local food in cafés such as Bread Cafe and Smoky Falls. You can make the hotel a centre point and travel to areas such as Dawki and Cherrapunji. The hotel is also a great transit point for travellers going to places such as Silchar. It’s a centrepoint for Northeast. This is the closest hill station from Guwahati and is most accessible for people from all over and nearby countries that come to Assam on business," said Praveen Sharda, general manager, Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong.
An evening view of the sprawling Vivanta Guwahati
The Vivanta Guwahati is IHCL’s first foray into the North-East. It has a strategic location on the Shillong-Guwahati highway, thereby positioning itself as a great spot for not just business travellers but also for adventure enthusiasts and travellers looking to explore the Seven Sister states of North-Eastern India.
The architecture of the hotel symbolises the major motifs prevalent in the state of Assam, right from the outer facade, where the dome-shaped structure resembles the typical honeycomb feature that is special to the region. Spread across five acres, with views of the nearby hills, the property is cradled in the lap of nature and features a swimming pool, multiple banquets and lawns, three F&B offerings, a fitness centre and a spa as well.
t2 soaked in the spirit of Assamese hospitality, and here’s getting you more on the experience.
“Guwahati is the gateway to the North-East and this hotel is proud to belong to such a vibrant city that is culturally evolved, connecting our guests to several destinations close by,” said Jayanta Das, area director and general manager, Vivanta Guwahati.
