The sensation of stepping into a Go-kart feels almost like a dream, where the thrill of living out Formula 1 fantasies becomes intense and trance-like, right? As I stepped trackside at Yas Marina Circuit, the massive crowd came alive before my eyes — cheering for Lewis Hamilton at the iconic and controversial season-ending race in 2021, when the seven-time World Champion was displaced by Max Verstappen, the incumbent. For any Formula 1 enthusiast, witnessing a race at Yas Island is the ultimate experience, especially during the electrifying finale each November. The venue also offers other ways to indulge in a need for speed, in case securing a seat at the race proves difficult.
Karting at Yas Marina Circuit
Bringing friendly competition to life in the shadow of where the world’s best drivers battle for glory, satisfaction was found in an adrenaline-pumping go-kart race. But that was just the final chapter of my many adventures on this sport-tourism island — a short drive from the main city of Abu Dhabi.
Earlier that day, adulthood took a backseat, and a childlike excitement took over as the doors to Ferrari World opened sharp at 11am. Supercars suspended mid-air? Cool, but not nearly enough. The real mission was clear — a full-throttle encounter with speed. The next five hours were a wild blur of ‘whees’ and ‘whaws’, as the park’s insanely fast rides delivered twists and stomach-dropping turns.
Super heroes and animated characters at Warner Bros. World for kids to enjoy
And then, there it was — the 16-seater Formula Rossa coaster, poised to jolt forward like a rocket, F1 style! Unfazed by the hour-long queue, hearts pounding — the anticipation was palpable as I settled into my seat. The next 58 seconds dissolved into a whirlwind of speed and adrenaline-fuelled screams, as we tore across the Yas Island landscape at 240km/h.
Yet, there was one challenge that even the bravest thrill seekers might hesitate to take on — the gut-wrenching roof climb to see the world’s largest prancing horse (the iconic Ferrari logo). Let’s just say, they “graciously” offered it, and some wisely declined!

Gotham City within WB World, for example, is a haven for DC fans across all ages. The excitement is palpable — from thrilling rides to an endless array of souvenirs. A 45-minute wait for the Superman ride? That’s just a testament to its popularity.
Etihad Arena is an indoor arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is located on the Yas Bay Waterfront district of Yas Island
The Etihad Arena, designed with inspiration from the intricate woven baskets of Bedouin tribes, also hosts a stellar lineup of musicals and shows all throughout the year. But the real magic happens during special events. Every Diwali, the island transforms into a celebration hub with themed festivities, and when the glamorous IIFA Awards roll into town, it’s nothing short of a star-studded spectacle, bringing the best of Bollywood to this desert paradise.

Yas is a vibrant playground of sensory experiences. Thrill-seekers can even challenge themselves at Clymb, home to the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall and largest skydiving chamber, in addition to the regular desert activities on offer. My diverse dining options included gourmet eateries within the theme parks, as well as night-time revelry at Yas Marina, where flavourful platters of kebabs were devoured at Bushra, a modern Middle-Eastern and North-African cuisine speciality by Buddha Bar, overlooking the sparkling water of the bay.
