Popularly Known as Bhutia Market, this place has been a quintessential part of Kolkata winters for years and remains a popular haunt
The shopkeepers come from Darjeeling, Shimla, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Bhutan. They stay in the nearby area for these months.Some of them have been coming here for generations
Lamu and Dicky from Himachal have been coming to Kolkata every winter for 30 years
The stalls are pretty well-stocked. From sweaters to cardigans, shawls, stoles, jackets, mufflers, gloves, woolen dresses everything for all age groups are available
The prices of most items are affordable. Earlier, bargaining was a common practice but it has now turned into a fixed price market. The smile and the warmth of the shopkeepers, however, remain the same
There are nearly 100 stalls to shop from
The market was majorly affected by COVID. There were very few stalls last year and the footfall was also negligible. This year the market is on in full swing
The stalls usually open at 8am and sales are on till 8.30-9pm
