In the heart of South Calcutta, nestled within the walls of a 100-year-old vintage building, The Red Bari has opened doors to a sustainable and heritage cafe that whispers tales of the bygone era. Why the name The Red Bari? The vintage establishment exudes the old-world charm of the red buildings you find in lanes of Calcutta, which are a testament to the timeless allure of the city. The dark green-panelled doors welcome you into a space where memories mingle with nostalgia with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting in the air. As you walk through the corridor with the classic black-and-white checkered flooring, the interiors will transport you to a Calcutta in the sepia era. The antique-style wooden furniture with subtle lighting and exposed broken brick walls, capture the true essence of heritage buildings in the city.

The founder and director of The Red Bari, Avantika Jalan came across this age-old property through an article which said that the seller wanted to sell the house to someone who would preserve it. Being an ardent believer in sustainability, Avantika and her team decided to acquire the building to restore it and open up a sustainable cafe to pay homage to the City Of Joy.
