Subhash Sethi, chairman of the SPML group, has faced a journey that would have left the bravest faint-hearted, but his determination and courage in the face of adversity have been unwavering. His recently won battle with cancer has now become the subject of an inspiring book, launched at ITC Sonar on February 15. Rebound: Redemption from Cancer, Journey of Life is not only a memoir but also a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Sethi bares his soul in this poignant narrative, recounting the formidable challenges he encountered in his journey with lymphoma and all the profound lessons he gathered along the way.
The book launch was a touching affair, resonating with the spirit of resilience and inspiration that shines through Sethi’s novel. Attended by friends and family, the event saw Sethi sharing the experiences he went through during his arduous cancer journey. As he spoke about the importance of hope and the power of a positive mindset in overcoming adversity, Sethi’s indomitable spirit and refusal to surrender to despair became evident through his words and the glowing reviews that his book received.
“We do not sign an MOU with God before being born on Earth. There are no rules to make sure that everything will be good in our lives. God never promises us an entirely beautiful life either. Everything pans out shaped by our destinies and our deeds, and I was very lucky that during my worst moments, I had the support of my family. Adversity can strike anybody at any time and life is a wonderful blessing, worth living each moment. I hope we can all surround ourselves with people who bring positivity into our lives and give us the strength to keep going,” said Sethi in his speech.
The book launch also had in attendance chief guest Luke Coutinho, renowned life coach and practitioner of integrative lifestyle medicine, who engaged in conversation with Sethi and his family. Luke, who advocates a holistic and integrative approach to cancer management, believes in complementing conventional medical treatments with lifestyle modifications to support the overall wellbeing of individuals dealing with cancer. Revealing that Sethi had reached out to him after his diagnosis, Luke shared insights on fitness, self-care, and overall wellbeing at the session.
“Keeping up the right attitude is very important. Cancer patients all go through the same diagnosis, the same treatments, the same cycles of chemotherapy and radiation, but each patient has a different outcome. And while nutrition is very important on a cellular level, we must remember that everyone is different, and each body requires different things. Exercise, sleep, and emotional wellness are all important, but the difference in between the outcomes I spoke of comes from attitude. It is natural to go through multiple stages of grief when one is struck by adversity, but finally one needs to reach acceptance, which comes from having the right attitude,” Luke shared at the session.
Subhash Sethi’s triumphant recovery from cancer, coupled with the launch of his book and Luke’s words of encouragement and perseverance, has not only served as a personal victory but also as an inspiration for many facing their own challenges with medical conditions. The event at ITC Sonar will be remembered by all those who are close to the Sethi family not only for being a literary milestone but also as a celebration of life, resilience, and the enduring power of human hope.
