Message from Fr Dominic Savio, principal, St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Calcutta, and president, St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association
The passing away of author Buddhadeb Guha is also a great loss to the Xaverian family.
He was the secretary of the Bengali Literary Society of the college in 1954 along with Nara Narayan Guptoo. His poems in his early days were published in the college magazine and Bengali Literary Society’s journals. He graced the Society’s 75th year celebration and was involved wholeheartedly.
He was also a recipient of the prestigious “Dashabhuja Bangali” Award of the Bengali Literary Society of the College. He always maintained a very cordial and jovial relation with his Alma Mater.
His death is definitely a loss to the literary and cultural fraternity but it is also a great loss to the Xaverian family. Definitely his loss is going to create a void but knowing the person as he was and the kind of pleasing and jovial personality he possessed, his life should be celebrated rather than mourning his death. Then only we can do justice in extending a befitting and true farewell to this great Xaverian like him.
