A house party and a zero-make-up person, the pretty Swastika Dutta slipped into five fashionable looks effortlessly, for The Telegraph, styled by Shalini Nopany, director of 85 Lansdowne. And, later told us how much she loved it!
Did you enjoy your first shoot with The Telegraph?
I loved it because this is my first shoot with The Telegraph. This was fun. Somehow I have never experimented with high fashion. Now I can say that I have done it for The Telegraph!
Are you apprehensive?
Somehow I have never had the opportunity but you should go out of the box and experiment sometimes just to see whether you are comfortable. Today I experimented and I can say that I am happy! We shot party looks today and I don’t go to parties. I am social only on social media. I usually wear something I am comfortable in. I was super comfortable in these too and I realised that if you can carry off shimmery clothes, you can be comfortable.
Which looks did you like best?
I loved the statement one and the concept was dramatic. I had to pose like a mannequin. I also loved the second look (metallic dress).
You are a no-make-up person…
I am not a make-up person. Today there were a lot of shades in eye make-up. We tried winged eyes. I recently worked on a series where I only had sunscreen and lip balm. I am not comfortable in make-up. Make-up korle mone hoi aami obhinoy korchhi. There is a myth about TV serial heroines that we do heavy make-up but in my last outing I have hardly done make-up. If you sleep for eight hours, drink plenty of water and don’t have dark circles, maintain yourself, you don’t need that much make-up.
What kind of parties do you like?
I am a house party, terrace party person. I have a small circle of friends and I am very happy and proud about it. Less people, less tension. I have social anxiety and I am not ashamed about it. I try to drop by. I have PR problem. I finish work and leave. Aamar hoina bole hoytoh aami paanch bochhor pichhiye aachhi. I do things at my own pace. Aamar habhbhab ta nei.
What about music?
I am in love with Lofi music. Soft music. If I am in the mood, I can put on Chikni Chameli and dance and if I am in a mellow mood, I put on Aamaro porano jaha chai. I am moody. You should enjoy yourself at a party instead of judging others.
What’s a party-favourite snack?
I love nachos. If you have mayonnaise, red sauce and nachos… and with chilled Coke, fresh lime soda salt, my favourite… I don’t need anything else.
Tell us about your favourite party spots?
This is a very difficult question. I have forgotten the last time I was out to party. If you ask me the last cafe I was in, I can tell you right now. Bangalore has amazing pubs. I was born in Mumbai. I want Kolkata to have more stand-up comedy pubs.
