On this day the Britain-bound ship Ann and Amelia left the shores of Bengal.

It had been launched in 1816 in Chittagong and sold in Calcutta in August 1823.

It reached Gravesend, England, in March 1824.

In September 1824, Ann and Amelia, bound for Sydney, left Cork. It was carrying 200 male prisoners, who disembarked at Sydney. Among the prisoners was Jack Donahue, who became a notorious bushranger, the name given to escaped convicts who hid in the bush.

Later, Ann and Amelia made three more voyages, for the British East India Company.

When she had almost completed her third voyage in 1835, Ann and Amelia was wrecked in a gale on the coast of France and was abandoned.
