Poet Ishanchandra Bandyopadhyay passed away on this day. He had taken his own life at the age of 43. He was the younger brother of poet Hemchandra Bandyopadhyay.

Born in Hooghly, he joined a government service after college. He is remembered for his books of poetry Yogesh and Chitmukur and his novel Sudhamayeee. He was associated with the monthly journal Purnima, published from Hooghly, all his life.
