The Bengal Academy of Literature, which later became Bangiya Sahitya Parishat, was founded on this day.

The Parishat is not only a centre for the study and development of Bengali language and literature, but it also focuses on cultural, historical, sociological and archaeological studies on Bengal.

Its current building is located on Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road. The land for the building was donated by Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi. The Parishat has been housed here since 1908.

Eminent literary and cultural figures such as Rabindranath Tagore, Ramesh Chandra Dutt, Ramendrasundar Trivedi, Nabinchandra Sen, Jagadishchandra Bose, Nirmal Kumar Bose, Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay, Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay and Haraprasad Shastri, among others, have been associated with this organisation.
