On this day, on its second voyage, East Indiaman Lord Keith reached Diamond Harbour. It was at Saugor on February 22 and reached Bencoolen on April 10.
Lord Keith was launched in 1804 and chartered for six voyages to the East India Company and made two more voyages.
During its second voyage, it took part, unusually for an Indiaman, in the recapture of a former British Royal Navy ship.
According to Lloyd’s List on December 30, 1806, the Indiaman Dover Castle had retaken Admiral Rainier.
According to the account, Admiral Rainer had been captured by a corvette. The crew of both Lord Keith and Dover Castle received salvage money in October 1810 for the recapture of Admiral Rainier.
