Amrita Bazar Patrika, which was published from Kolkata, on this day carried reports related to World War II and the political situation in India on its front page. But also on the same page were placed advertisements for two Hindi films. One was Prithvi Vallabh, featuring Sohrab Modi and Durga Khote, which was showing at Minerva and Chhaya. The 1943 film was the story of two kings, one good and one evil. The other advertisement was of the 1942 film Fariad, which was described as a “grand X’mas attraction” and was showing at Jyoti. It starred Shamim, Mubarak, Ishwarlal, Rama Shukul and Noor Jehan.
