On this day, All Bengal Library Association was formed with Rabindranath Tagore as president

On this day a meeting was held at Albert Hall in Kolkata and All Bengal Library Association was formed with the poet Rabindranath Tagore as president and Sushil Kumar Ghosh as its first secretary.

In 1924, at the All India Public Library Conference held in Belgaon, a resolution had been adopted, with Deshabandhu Chittaranjan Das as president, to form library associations in each province in India. After the establishment of this association an India-wide library movement started.

In 1933 and the association was renamed Bangiya Granthagar Parishad in Bengali and Bengal Library Association in English.
