After a day’s break, it rained in Kolkata again on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a notice stating that due to the presence of a trough from Punjab to West Assam across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, North Bengal and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over the districts of North Bengal during Wednesday and Thursday. The intensity of rainfall is likely to decrease over the districts of North Bengal from June 23

On Wednesday, Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim presided over a meeting on afforestation at KMC, Howrah Municipal Corporation & Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority areas. Hakim pledged the plantation of 1 crore saplings at various areas, alongside the Hooghly river up to Dakshineswar and on the banks of  Tollygunge Nullah. The meeting was attended by members and officers of KMC along with representatives from the Army, PWD, Port Trust, HMC & Howrah Police who have been requested to make the initiative a success

The centenary celebrations of late author-journalist and Magsaysay winner, Gourkishore Ghosh organised by the Gourkishore Ghosh Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, concluded with an intense panel discussion on ‘Deshoprem – Deshodroho’ where Patricia Mukhim, editor Shillong Times and Semanti Ghosh, writer & associate editor, Ananda Bazar Patrika participated as the key speakers. The theme of the panel discussion was based on an article written by Gourkishore Ghosh in Desh Patrika in 1993. This panel discussion, held at the GD Birla Sabhagar was chaired by Anita Agnihotri, writer and retired IAS officer. A collection of his essays titled Gourananda Kabi Bhone, published by Dey’s Publishing was also released.
