Police said the neighbours informed the cops who found the woman, a homemaker, lying on the bed. She was wrapped in a blanket.

“A pillow with red stains was found on the bed near her feet,” said an officer of South Port police station.

The body underwent post-mortem on Sunday.

The police said although the post-mortem report was yet to come, it was a suspected case of murder.

“We found that Anjuyara Khatun had been married for 25 years but her husband had left her and had remarried. He stays at Kakdwip in South 24-Parganas with his second wife. He works as a tailor,” said the officer.

From the neighbours police learned that the husband — Shahjahan Molla — used to visit his first wife often and would leave after staying overnight.

“We suspect that he had visited her last night. Her phone is also missing.
We are trying to contact the husband,” said a police officer.

No one was arrested or detained in connection with this case till Sunday evening.
