Woman dies of dengue at SSKM after childbirth

Neither the health department nor Kolkata Municipal Corporation has revealed the count of dengue deaths

A 21-year-old woman died of dengue at a hospital on Tuesday, two days after she gave birth to a boy.

The woman had tested positive for malaria during Durga Puja.

Guriya Kumari Rajak was admitted to SSKM Hospital on Sunday. She gave birth to the boy the same day, an official of the hospital said.

The woman’s brother-in-law said her condition started deteriorating around 2am on Tuesday. She passed away in the afternoon.

The death certificate mentioned “cardio-respiratory failure in a case of complicated dengue with thrombo-cytopenia” as a cause of death.

Kolkata, as well as the rest of the state, has witnessed a number of dengue deaths this year.

Neither the health department nor the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has revealed the death count.
