WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, all three platforms that run on shared infrastructure, were down for several hours on Monday. The outage happened across the world and around 9pm in India.

Here's what WhatsApp posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter:
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg apologised to those affected by the outage.
Users in Kolkata turned to Twitter to complain about the popular social networking and communication platforms that were inaccessible.
