The state secondary education board has uploaded on its website the list of 5,757 candidates who are working as assistant teachers in the government-aided higher secondary schools in compliance with a July 7 directive of Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay.
The name of the candidates and that of the school, the recommendation memo issued by the School Service Commission (SSC) and the appointment memo number provided by the board, have been uploaded.
A board official said Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had asked them to upload the list by July 21.
A division bench of Calcutta High Court on Thursday asked the commission which conducted a written test in 2016 to screen the teaching job aspirants for the HS level, to upload the OMR sheets of as many candidates by July 28.
A notice signed by the board’s secretary, Subrata Ghosh, says: “In compliance with the order dated 07.07.2023 passed by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay,...publishing a list of 5,757 candidates appointed as assistant teachers (XI-XII) in different aided and sponsored schools...”.
A board official said Justice Gangopadhyay on July 7 ordered the board list of the candidates working as teachers, would have to be uploaded while hearing an appeal.
Bobita Sarkar, whose appointment at a higher secondary school was revoked by the court in May because she was given more marks than she deserved during the screening for the job conducted by the SSC, had filed the appeal.
“The division bench has clarified on Thursday that uploading the OMR sheets of the candidates by the SSC won’t lead to termination of teachers at this stage because a related case is pending in the Supreme Court,” said a board official.
The Calcutta High Court in March directed the secondary education board to notify the termination of 775 secondary school teachers on grounds of securing jobs through manipulation of marks.
Swapan Mandal, of the Bengal Teachers’ and Employees’ Association, said uploading the list was crucial, considering what the CBI had said in its status report to Justice Gangopadhyay in September.
“The status report said among those recruited at the HS level, manipulation of marks was detected with respect to 907 candidates....”
