The state JEE board has come up with a notification for admission to BTech courses almost two months after the publication of the results.

The notification says there will be two unconnected phases of counselling.

One will be for the WBJEE 2022 rank holders. The other will be for WBJEE-2022 rank holders for admission to architecture courses and JEE (Main) rank holders for seats reserved for them in private engineering colleges of West Bengal.

A board official said that according to the rules of the Architecture Council of India, an architecture aspirant has to crack the West Bengal JEE and the National Aptitude Test in Architecture. “Timetable will be published shortly after the receipt of seat matrix from the competent authority”, the notification says.

A total of 80,393 candidates had written the state JEE on April 30 and 80,132 received rank cards. “All aspects of the counselling... will be held in the centralised online process…. Registration is allowed only at the beginning of the first round. During registration, once academic scores are given and the registration fee paid, the candidates can view all choices... according to the eligibility criteria based on the inputs,” the notification said.

The notification says there will be three rounds of counselling – allotment, upgradation and mop-up.

Candidates have been advised to select maximum/ “all possible institutes/ branches”.

“This gives a higher chance of allotment in the first round. The candidates can always opt for upgrade later,” said a JEE board official.

Candidates will log in to check their allotment. The allotment status will show the institute and the course in which he or she has been allotted a seat.

“A section of students seeking admission to undergraduate courses will eventually enroll for BTech programmes. The start of the JEE counselling will help clear the picture. We might get an idea whether we will have to reopen the admission portal to fill seats left vacant after counselling,” said an official.

The higher education department had on September 28 asked government-aided colleges and unitary universities to reopen the online portal for undergraduate admissions because seats remained vacant.

The problem of seats remaining vacant affected engineering colleges, too, last year.
