Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday inaugurated the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in southwest Kolkata’s Alipore in the presence of members of West Bengal’s culture clan.
“A proud moment as we inaugurate the Dhanadhanyo Auditorium, a state-of-the-art indoor facility built at a cost of Rs 440 crore.... This modern marvel is a symbol of progress and development in our state,” the chief minister wrote in her Twitter handle and shared several photographs of the auditorium, which has the shape of a divine conch.
Spread across 4.5 acres, the facility — which has two auditoriums with a seating capacity of 2,000 and 540, and small conference facilities — was conceived by the chief minister. It will be maintained by Hidco. It also has a food court, parking facilities and electronic charging points. “I thought of the divine conch as the broad structure as it signifies blessing. It also has a connection with the sea,” said Mamata.
“With this facility, you have outdone the rest of India…. And there is little doubt that you will do it again,” said poet Subodh Sarkar. “What a gift to the city and our state on the eve of the Bengali New Year!” industrialist Sanjay Budhia told The Telegraph.
