Members of the Newtown Business Club and their children got into Durga puja mode with an agomoni programme that took place in its banquet hall on October 17.

They put up an item themselves after the inaugural programme — Durga vandana and the opening song, Aigiri Nandini.

“We had practised for over two and half months; everyone put in their best efforts to make this event successful today. They made time for rehearsals. There was perfect synchronisation in the team’s effort. This was indeed a great start to Puja for all of us,” said Mamata Chatterjee, a resident of Akanksha who had co-ordinated and choreographed the entire programme.

A classical dance performance was also staged by Chatterjee and Krishna Gourab, the creative director of Rhythmz Dance Creations.

“The socio-cultural significance of Durga puja is indeed huge. There couldn’t have been a better way to start pujo than this. Everyone had put one’s best foot forward today,” said Krishna Gourab.

The evening’s hour-long event came to an end with a highly energetic and colourful garba dance performance.

“We have been organising an agomoni event for quite a few years now to usher in the festive fervour. The cultural extravaganza is the result of tireless effort of our members,” said Col. Indrajit Roy (Retd), general manager, Newtown Business Club.
