A 3D Project Mapping Show depicting the history of Kolkata is set to begin at Victoria Memorial Hall (VMH) late this month or in early March.
The show is currently being edited, said the VMH authorities on Wednesday. The new show will be run alongside the ongoing 3D Project Mapping Shows on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Indian freedom movement.
“There are a few places in India where 3D mapping is being used but they do not have a building as unique and grand as Victoria Memorial Hall to serve as the screen for the show,” said Jayanta Sengupta, curator, VMH. “Using state-of-the-art 3D mapping technology with a carefully written script and surround sound, the show will offer an immersive experience to the audience.”
Victoria Memorial Hall used to host a 2D show on Kolkata’s history from 1991. It was discontinued in 2016. The earlier show had the voiceover of the late actor Soumitra Chatterjee in Bengali and Victor Banerjee in English.
The show on Netaji, which is being held every day except for Mondays and public holidays, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Netaji's 125th birth anniversary in January last year.
Just like the Netaji show, the upcoming show on Kolkata will use the eastern façade of the VMH building as the screen.
