Union minister for women and child development Smriti Irani is likely to inaugurate the Sealdah Metro station on Monday, July 11.

Even if the Union minister is unable to make time, the inauguration will still be held on Monday, Metro Railway spokesperson Ekalabya Chakraborty said.

The station will be opened to the public on July 14.

The Metro authorities hope that the recent extension of the Metro services up to Sealdah will significantly increase the number of passengers in the partially operational East-West Metro corridor.

The soon-to-be opened Metro station will link suburban train services to and from Sealdah, one of the busiest terminal railway stations in the country, thus providing connectivity to the passengers travelling to the IT hub at Sector V in Salt Lake.

The East-West Metro section connecting Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake remains partially operational at present with trains running between the Salt Lake Sector V and Phoolbagan stations.
