A private hospital in Kolkata and another in Howrah have received accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI), a globally recognised organisation that issues accreditation to hospitals based on quality of services and patient safety.

The RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata and Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Howrah received the accreditation. Both are run by the same group.

Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals first received the JCI accreditation in 2009. It has since been renewed every three years.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient care, safety, and quality within our organisation. The Joint Commission accreditation demonstrates our adherence to rigorous performance standards, continuous improvement, and a relentless focus on providing exceptional healthcare services to our patients,” said R. Venkatesh, group COO, Narayana Health.

“The JCI accreditation is globally recognised. A lot of foreign patients, those from Europe, look for this accreditation before they visit a hospital,” said Rana Dasgupta, chief executive officer (eastern region), Apollo Hospitals group.

An official at Narayana Health said reviewers checked the clinical services as well as facility services. The JCI team also interviewed patients’ families.
