Madan Saha, 65, a resident of Sarat Chatterjee Road in Howrah’s Shibpur, was headed towards SSKM Hospital on the AJC Bose Road flyover when the vehicle hit him from behind, near a spot above the Camac Street-AJC Bose Road crossing, police said.

Saha was flung off his bike and his helmet came off under the impact of the collision, the police said. He hit the guard wall and fell on the carriageway. Passersby alerted cops. A few stopped the minibus from fleeing.

“The motorist had suffered multiple injuries and doctors at the hospital’s emergency ward declared him dead,” said an officer. “We have arrested the driver and the minibus has been seized.”

Run over in Behala

A 58-year-old pedestrian, Anjali Bishnu, was run over by a private bus near the crossing of Diamond Harbour Road and Bonomali Road in Behala around 3.45pm on Tuesday.

Bishnu was knocked down by the bus and suffered several injuries, the police said. She was declared dead at the Vidyasagar State General Hospital.

The bus, which was headed towards Bakkhali from Esplanade, was seized but the driver fled, the police said.
