Two men were found allegedly possessing banned psychotropic substances weighing more than 2kg and worth around Rs 10 crore, police said.

Amjad Khan, 36, who is originally from Rajasthan, and Pijush Mondal, 46, from Bongaon, were arrested near Canal South Road in east Kolkata’s Tangra locality off the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Thursday evening.

The police said 1.04kg each of Amphetamine and Methaqualone — both banned drugs — and a lesser quantity of another unidentified powdery substance have been seized from them.

“The arrest was made based on specific information about some drugs being smuggled into the city,” said an officer of Kolkata police’s special task force that arrested the two. The cops were trying to find the source of the drugs and where they would have been supplied.
