Two persons have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly cheating a Kolkata trader through a fraudulent website that promised dealerships of a wheat flour company.
Kolkata cyber police arrested Ram Kumar and Nanda Pal from Uttar Pradesh.
“They had come in contact with the complainant and offered him a dealership of a reputable wheat flour company. They had sent a website link to the complainant and he paid Rs 60,000 through that link. But he did not get anything in return. Then he lodged a police complaint,” said a senior officer of the cyber crime wing at Lalbazar.
The officer added that there was a possibility that the duo had cheated many more persons in a similar way.
The accused duo were arrested on Sunday and have been brought to Kolkata on transit remand. “We will try to find out more about their victims. We suspect there are many more persons who have been duped by them,” he said.
