Two men have been arrested from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in killing and robbing a woman at a north Kolkata building last month.
The accused duo was identified using the display picture on their WhatsApp account that matched with the CCTV footage that police had collected from near the murder spot, a police officer said.
The murder was reported on July 23 night after a woman, who lived at Burtolla, was found dead. Her ornaments were also reported missing from the room.
The cops said they collected CCTV footage from the nearby cameras but there was no clue about the identity of the suspects.
“We took the help of call dump in the neighbourhood. Two mobile phone users, who were at Burtolla when the incident happened, had come to Kolkata from Uttar Pradesh and left that night,” said an officer at Burtolla police station.
A team from Burtolla police station went to Rae Bareli on Wednesday and zeroed in on one of the two accused — Manish Singh on Friday afternoon.
Based on his statement, the cops could arrest the second accused Suraj Singh. They will be brought to the city for court production.
