A communications conclave in the city dwelled on a range of topics on its opening day.
The Global Communication Conclave, hosted by the Public Relations Council of India, in association with The Telegraph, opened at the Fairfield by Marriott, Kolkata.
The PRCI, a pan-India professional council, has 55 chapters across the country.
Friday saw a series of engaging panel discussions, followed by a glittering awards ceremony.
“News Channels — Are we headed in the right direction,” was the topic of one of the discussions, which dissected jingoism versus factual accuracy.
Prabhat Kumar Sharma, former national head (media), Tata Steel, Suresh Kumar, additional secretary, power in the Bengal administration, Jitender Bhargava, former executive director, Air India and Mrityunjoy Chatterjee, director, media and communications, Adamas University, were speakers in the session, moderated by author and motivational speaker Vivek Atray.
The theme of the conclave is “Custodians of reputation — building a new narrative”.
The conclave was inaugurated by Aroop Biswas, West Bengal’s minister for power, housing, youth services and sports.
The keynote address was delivered by Kanchan Gupta, senior adviser, Union ministry of information and broadcasting.
The conclave also awarded individuals and organisations. The awards ceremony was divided into several categories.
The programme ends on Saturday.
