Two construction workers caught in blast while digging earth in Beliaghata

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at NRS Medical College and Hospital

Two construction workers were seriously injured in a blast that occurred when they were digging earth near a construction site in the city's Beliaghata area on Monday afternoon, a police officer said.

The two injured are currently undergoing treatment at Nil Ratan Sircar (NRS) Medical College and Hospital. One of the workers had his hand blown off in the explosion.

"A socket bomb was probably buried under the soil at the construction site in Sarkarbazar area. The matter is now under investigation,” the police officer said.

“Our forensic team is still collecting evidence from the area. We are talking to witnesses who were present there during the incident, which took place around 2.30pm," he added.

Staircase collapse

A portion of a staircase inside a two-storey residential building on Ram Banerjee Lane in Muchipara area collapsed on Saturday night.

No one was trapped in the rubble or injured, according to police sources.
