Around 1,200kg of marijuana, worth around Rs 2.5 crore, was seized from a truck at the Jessore Road-VIP Road crossing in northeast Kolkata on Monday night, police said.
The consignment was stashed under sacks of rice and vegetables, an officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate’s detective department said.
According to the officer, they had set up a check-post at the crossing based on a specific input that a truck carrying marijuana would try to enter the city on Monday night.
The driver and the helper of the truck have been arrested, said an officer.
The police identified the driver as Sougata Mondal, alias Kalu, and the helper as Amit Mondal. Both are residents of Murshidabad.
