A young woman who went out with her friends has alleged that she was gang-raped inside a vehicle on a deserted stretch off EM Bypass on Sunday night.
Based on her complaint, police arrested two of the accused. The third was yet to be arrested till Tuesday evening.
They have been charged under the IPC section on gang rape. The case was registered with Pragati Maidan police station on Monday.
The police identified the two accused as Chandan Gupta and Bikash Dutta.
An officer at the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar said that according to the complaint, the 19-year-old girl left home with her friends and “took a vehicle that belonged to the brother of one of the men who was with her”.
“She was allegedly gang-raped inside that vehicle at a deserted location, which is under Pragati Maidan police station, between Sunday night and Monday morning,” said the officer.
The woman was dropped off at a location along EM Bypass. She lodged a complaint of gang rape with Pragati Maidan police station on Monday and named her alleged assaulters.
