The city traffic police on Tuesday notified the restrictions that will be in place for Christmas on December 24 and December 25.
The notification, signed by Kolkata police commissioner Soumen Mitra, said Park Street from JL Nehru Road crossing upto Wood Street crossing & the entire Middleton Street will be closed on December 25.
Further, parking will be prohibited on Park Street from JL Nehru Road to Wood Street, Middleton Street, Short Street, Wood Street from Short Street upto Park Street, Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Camac Street from Middleton Street to Short Street, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road from Royd Street to Park Street, Little Russell Street, Free School Street from Park Street to Kyd Street crossing and Elliot Road.
- Only east bound traffic will ply on Ho Chi Minh Sarani.
- Both bound traffic will ply along Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road from Royd Street crossing upto Park Street crossing.
- Russell Street and Little Russell Street from Shakespeare Sarani Crossing will be no entry for vehicular traffic.
- Park Street and AJC Bose Road-bound vehicles coming from Outram Road will avail Ho Chi-Minh Sarani to Camac Street then Short Street, Wood Street to avail Park Street or all along either Camac Street or JL Nehru Road to avail AJC Bose Road.
- Park Street bound vehicles coming via Mayo Road, JL Nehru Road will take Kyd Street upto Free School Street then Royd Street upto Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road then right turn to avail Park Street.
- If required, west-bound traffic will be restricted along Elliot Road from AJC Bose Road crossing.
- Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from any of the arterial and feeder roads by traffic police on duty as and when considered necessary in the interest of the public on the aforesaid dates.
Restrictions for December 24
- Both way traffic will not be implemented before 2am (25.12.2021) on Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani and all other connecting & Feeder Roads, except Chowringhee Road.
- Queensway shall be one way from east to west, as and when required.
- Cathedral Road will be closed for vehicles as and when required.
- North and south bound vehicles will ply along JL Nehru Road from Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani crossing upto AJC Bose Road crossing. In case of necessity south bound vehicles may be diverted along Queensway via Cathedral Road extension.
Movement of all kinds of goods vehicles shall be restricted to move towards Maidan and Park Street sector from several intersections including AJC Bose Road & Chowringhee Road crossing (towards north), AJC Bose Road & Harish Mukherjee Road & Cathedral Road crossing (towards north), Strand Road & Auckland Road crossing (towards east), Govt. Place East & Esplanade Row East crossing (towards South), Govt. Place East & RR Avenue crossing (towards South) from 4pm on December 24 to 4am on December 25.
The traffic restrictions listed in the notification will be implemented as and when deemed necessary by the Kolkata Traffic Police.
