Restrictions will be imposed on vehicle movement on and around Park Street on Christmas Eve and Christmas evening. Here is what you need to know if you are planning to visit the Park Street area with your car on Friday or Saturday.
Christmas Eve (Friday)
- Two-way traffic will be implemented on Park Street and Shakespeare Sarani from 2am on Saturday, instead of 10pm on Friday.
- Queens Way will be one way, from east to west, as and when required.
- Cathedral Road will be closed to vehicles as and when required.
Christmas (Saturday)
- Park Street, between JL Nehru Road crossing and Wood Street crossing, and entire Middleton Street will be closed to vehicles on Saturday evening as and when required.
- Ho Chi Minh Sarani will be one-way
- Two-way traffic will be allowed on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, between Royd Street crossing and Park Street crossing.
- Vehicles will not be allowed on Russel Street.
- Park Street and AJC Bose Road-bound vehicles from Outram Road will move through Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Camac Street, Short Street and Wood Street to reach Park Street.
- Park Street-bound vehicles from Mayo Road and JL Nehru Road will move through Kyd Street, Free School Street, Royd Street and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road to reach Park Street.
- South-bound vehicles along JL Nehru Road intending to go further south from the Park Street crossing will ply through the Park Street flyover or take a right turn on Mayo Road and then move through Dufferin Road, Outram Road and Kidderpore Road.

No Parking
- Parking will not be allowed on Park Street between the JL Nehru Road crossing and the Wood Street crossing.
- Parking will not be allowed on Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Camac Street, Middleton Street, Short Street, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Royd Street, Little Russel Street, Free School Street, Kyd Street and Elliot Road.
Vehicle movement may be regulated at and around Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, Alipore zoo, Pareshnath Temple, Kali temple in Kalighat, Thanthania Kalibari, New Market sector on Lindsay Street, Birla Mandir on Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue and Millennium Park
Covid restrictions
Police said masks and hand sanitisers will be distributed on Park Street.
Police arrangements
Around 3,000 cops will be deployed on and around Park Street. There will be 11 watchtowers, 15 assistance booths, 20 motorcycle patrols, two QRT vehicles on Park Street and adjoining areas.
Drink driving
- Motorists may undergo breathalyser tests. If the reading indicates presence of alcohol in the bloodstream more than the permissible limit, the person will be prosecuted under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
- According to the section, a person can be imprisoned for up to six months or asked to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 if alcohol exceeding 30mg per 100ml is detected in the bloodstream through a breathalyser. Second and subsequent offences can lead to imprisonment for two years or a fine of Rs 3,000.
