Major portions of central Kolkata will remain blocked for the Martyrs' Day rally of the Trinamul Congress on Friday. Kolkata traffic police have announced restrictions and issued an advisory for the rally day.
Restrictions
Traffic on the following roads will be regulated between 4am and 9pm on Friday because the police are apprehending major congestion in those areas
- Amherst Street
- Bidhan Sarani (between Keshab Chandra Sen Street crossing and Vivekananda Road crossing)
- College Street
- Brabourne Road
- Strand Road (between Hare Street crossing and Raja Woodmount Street crossing)
- BB Ganguly Street
- Bentinck Street
- New CIT Road
- Rabindra Sarani (between BK Paul Avenue crossing and Lalbazar Street crossing)
No parking
Parking will not be allowed on the following stretches
- AJC Bose Road (between Hastings crossing and Cathedral Road crossing)
- Hospital Road
- Queensway
- Cathedral Road
- Casuarina Avenue
- Lovers Lane
Police advice
A senior officer in the traffic department of Kolkata police said it was advisable to avoid roads through which rallyists are scheduled to proceed. “The idea is to keep the traffic moving through roads through which rallyists are not scheduled to move," said an assistant commissioner.
