Ahead of the championship dog show, Calcutta Canine Club president Ajoy Kumar Law had a message for dog owners. “You must remember that winning is not always important. Your dog remains your best friend. Love them, be kind to them and flaunt them at all places. That is the best way to enjoy your time with your pet and have a good time together,” he said.
The Calcutta Canine Club had organized its 85th, 86th and 87th Championship Dog Show (under KCI regulation) at Science City.
The judges for the all breeds and specials were Philip John, Shharat Sharma and K.K. Trivedi. Other than Law, the president, also present were Ashok Chand Laha and Pallav Saha, Sib Shankar Chatterjee, Tapan Basak, Prasanjit Chatterjee, Palash Kumar Ghosh, Sudipta Sankar Bhaduri and Surajit Dey.
“This year we had three very renowned judges — Philip John, Shharat Sharma and KK Trivedi who joined us for the show. We are grateful that they could be a part of the show. It takes a lot of hard work to organise an event of this scale,” Law said.
Resident of DA Block Paula Basak with her pet Percy. “I’m a regular at this show along with my husband. Percy is a five-year-old American Eskimo and we are very proud to bring him here. Every year we come here and meet dog lovers like us. It’s beautiful to watch the dogs and the show that they put up,” she said.
Sayani Chakraborty came over all the way from Talandu in Bandel, to participate in the show. Her pet Bicchu, a Newfoundland dog, won a prize in the English CP Championship Category. “I’m so proud of Bicchu. He has done a wonderful job. This is his first time at a dog show and he has already won a prize!” she gushed.
Trainers line up with their dogs for the Sit and Stay round. Most of the participants were well disciplined and managed to clear the round in one go.
Shyamal Chakraborty strikes a pose with Chutki, his pet Pomeranian. Chutki won a prize as a second runner-up in the Best of Breed category. “Chutki has always been very lively and friendly with strangers. She is a good friend and loves to play with everyone,” added Shyamal.
Three-year-old Jiya Roy was at the show along with her parents and pet Casper, a Chow Chow. “Casper is one and a half years old and he is my best friend. I play with him in the evening and take him out for walks along with my father. I’m glad to see so many people liking him and stopping by to pet him,” chirped Jiya
Mando, a Mudhol Hound, made several heads turn at the show. Proud owner Sourish Dey said: “Mando is one and a half years old. He gets a lot of attention wherever he goes because he is a rare breed. However, Mando loves to play with the ball and enjoys the company of children.”
