Three persons, including a woman, were killed after a speeding bus hit them on the Sealdah flyover in central Kolkata, police said on Thursday.
The accident occurred on Wednesday night when the passenger vehicle rammed the pedestrians on the flyover, a senior officer said. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was seized.
One person died on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries at the NRS hospital. The cause of the accident is being investigated, the officer added.
The police have registered a case under the following sections.
a) 304 part 2 involuntary manslaughter
b) 308 attempted involuntary manslaughter
c) 338 endangering lives by reckless driving
d) 336 Putting lives in danger
The mangled bus was not yet removed from the accident spot until Thursday noon. Additional CP visited the spot in the morning and spoke to the traffic sergeants on duty. The CCTV grabs are being examined closely to ascertain the exact reason of the accident.
Many injured passengers are being treated at a hospital in Kankurgachi.
