The body of a 31-year-old man was found in a pool of blood in front of a multi-storey building in northeast Kolkata’s PK Guha Lane in Dum Dum early on Wednesday.
Police said the man was Kalyan Kuila from Paschim Medinipur, who shared a room on rent with another man on the fifth floor of Nandini Apartment, in front of which his body was found. He worked for a private security agency.
“Kalyan was wearing a white trouser whose belt was unhooked, when we found him lying in front of a closed pan shop,” said an officer.
One of the legs of Kalyan was folded, while the other was straight. The head was turned to the right. There was no shirt on him, the police said.
“A case of unnatural death has been started. We are awaiting the post mortem report,” said a senior officer of Dum Dum police station. "We have spoken to his room-mate and have told him that we might question him again.”
Cops said after a preliminary investigation that Kalyan was from Thakur Chawk in Belda, Paschim Medinipur.
“We are going through his call records to draw up a list of frequent callers,” the officer said.
Family members have told the police that Kalyan had been staying in Kolkata for six years and would visit Belda regularly.
The room-mate had called up one of Kalyan’s brothers early in the morning to inform the family about the death, the police have learnt.
